We design, engineer, and build timber retaining walls for residential properties across Sydney. Treated pine, hardwood, and combination systems. Properly engineered timber, not just stacked logs.
Timber retaining walls blend naturally with gardens and landscapes, cost less than concrete or stone, and are well suited to residential sites up to moderate heights. But the key is using the right timber, the right treatment, the right connections, and proper drainage.
METCON builds timber retaining walls using H4 or H5 treated pine or durable hardwood, with galvanised steel posts or deadman anchoring systems. Every wall is designed by a structural engineer with drainage specified for the site conditions.
Whether it's a simple garden terrace or a full boundary retaining wall, we build timber walls that are engineered to perform, not just stacked and hoped for the best.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth a free site visit. We will tell you straight what your site needs.
Timber is ideal for garden terracing and moderate-height retaining where aesthetics matter.
Timber walls are typically the most cost-effective engineered retaining option for residential sites.
Timber blends with gardens, decking, and outdoor living areas better than concrete or steel.
Older timber walls with inadequate treatment or drainage fail, proper replacement fixes the design, not just the symptoms.
Stepped timber terraces create level garden beds and usable outdoor space on sloping blocks.
Timber materials can be carried by hand, useful on sites where machinery access is restricted.

From simple garden borders to full-height engineered retaining walls, we handle all timber retaining wall construction.
H4 treated pine sleepers with galvanised steel posts set in concrete footings. The most cost-effective timber retaining system with proven long-term performance.
Durable Australian hardwood retaining walls for a premium natural finish. Ironbark, spotted gum, and other Class 1 durability timbers.
Interlocking timber crib walls and horizontal log retaining systems. Suitable for curved walls, garden edges, and lower retaining applications.
Steel or timber posts with horizontal rails and timber sleeper infill. Engineered for the wall height and soil conditions on your site.
Ag pipe, geofabric, and gravel drainage layers behind every wall. Correct drainage is what keeps timber walls upright and prevents premature rot.
Multiple timber wall tiers stepping down a slope to create level garden beds and usable outdoor areas. Each tier independently designed.

Every timber retaining wall follows our structured five-step process. Engineered, drained, and documented from start to finish.
We measure the wall requirements, assess soil type, note drainage conditions, and identify the best timber system and treatment level for your site.
A structural engineer designs the wall, timber sizes, post spacing, footing depth, and drainage. Matched to your specific height, soil, and surcharge conditions.
We excavate for footings and drainage. Steel or timber posts are set in concrete at the specified depth and spacing, ready for timber placement.
Timber sleepers or rails are installed between posts. Ag pipe drainage, geofabric, and gravel are placed behind the wall before controlled backfill.
Engineer inspects the completed wall. You receive design drawings, construction photos, and certification for your records or council requirements.
Engineering design, proper drainage, quality treated timber, and full documentation. Built to last decades, not just seasons.
Any landscaper can stack timber. We engineer timber walls. Proper treatment, proper drainage, proper engineering, because a timber wall that isn't designed right is a timber wall that falls over.
Every wall is structurally designed, not guessed from a YouTube video.
H4/H5 treated pine or Class 1 durability hardwood, the right timber for in-ground contact.
Meteora Constructions Pty Ltd, fully licensed in NSW with all required insurances.
Ag pipe, geofabric, and gravel behind every wall. No drainage = no wall lifespan.
Documentation and certification for council DA, CDC, or exempt development requirements.

As a rough 2026 guide, timber walls in Sydney cost around $250 to $450 per square metre. Hardwood costs more than treated pine but lasts longer. Excavation, drainage, engineering and council fees may be additional. We give you a free, itemised quote after a site visit.
It depends on the height and location. As a general guide in NSW:
We check your council's rules and handle the application for you.
In almost every case, yes. Poor drainage is the number one cause of retaining wall failure. We install ag-drainage, gravel backfill and weep holes as standard on every wall.
A standard residential wall typically takes 3 to 10 working days, depending on length, height, access and whether excavation or engineering is involved. Walls that need council approval can add 4 to 8 weeks for the approval process.
Not sure this is the right wall for your site? Compare the other systems we build, or ask the builder.
