Bridging design and construction

Engineering is only useful if it can be built.

Engineers design solutions on paper. Builders construct them on site. When these two worlds don't communicate properly, you get designs that are theoretically correct but practically impossible, needlessly expensive, or riddled with coordination clashes.

METCON coordinates engineering from the builder's perspective. We brief engineers with practical construction knowledge, review designs for buildability, coordinate between structural, civil, and services engineers, and ensure the drawings translate into actual construction.

Whether it's coordinating a structural engineer for a residential underpinning project or managing multiple engineering disciplines on a commercial development, we bridge the gap between engineering design and construction reality.

Is this you?

Six signs you need engineering coordination

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth a free site visit. We will tell you straight what your site needs.

Structural drawings that don't work on site

Engineering details that assume unlimited access, perfect conditions, or materials that aren't available, they need builder input.

Multiple engineers producing uncoordinated documentation

Structural, civil, hydraulic, and mechanical engineers all designing independently leads to clashes and rework.

Engineer's design needs practical construction input

The engineer has the theory right but the construction methodology hasn't been considered. Builder coordination fills this gap.

Geotechnical report needs to inform the structural design

Geotech findings need to flow through to structural design. Without coordination, assumptions diverge from reality.

Value engineering needed to reduce costs

A builder who understands engineering can identify where simpler, cheaper solutions achieve the same structural outcome.

Existing structure needs assessment before modification

Assessing what's there, briefing the engineer accurately, and implementing the design, all need coordination.

What we coordinate

Every engineering discipline.

From single structural engineer projects to multi-discipline coordination, we manage the engineering so it works in the real world.

01

Structural Engineering

Briefing structural engineers with real site conditions, reviewing designs for buildability, and implementing structural solutions accurately on site.

02

Civil Engineering

Coordinating civil engineering for site works, drainage, levels, and access. Ensuring civil design works with the structural and architectural requirements.

03

Geotechnical Coordination

Managing geotechnical investigations, interpreting results for structural design, and ensuring foundation solutions match actual ground conditions.

04

Services Engineering

Coordinating hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and fire services engineers. Ensuring services routes work within the structural frame and architectural spaces.

05

Buildability Reviews

Reviewing engineering designs from a construction perspective. Identifying impractical details, coordination clashes, and opportunities to simplify before construction starts.

06

Documentation Management

Managing engineering revisions, ensuring current drawings are on site, and tracking design changes through to construction. No outdated drawings, no confusion.

Our process

Builder-led. Engineer-designed. Site-proven.

Every engineering coordination follows our structured five-step process. We bridge the gap between design office and construction site.

Project Brief

We understand the project scope, identify the engineering disciplines required, and prepare a clear brief for each engineer, including practical construction constraints.

Engineer Engagement

We engage appropriate engineers, provide site-specific information, and ensure they understand the construction methodology and practical constraints.

Design Review

Engineering designs reviewed for buildability, coordination between disciplines, and practical implementation. Issues identified and resolved before construction.

Site Implementation

Engineering designs implemented on site with hold-point inspections. Any site variations fed back to engineers for assessment and revised documentation.

Certification

Engineers inspect completed works, provide certification, and confirm compliance. Full documentation compiled for the project record.

Engineering that works, on paper and on site.

Coordinated engineering, buildability-reviewed designs, implemented construction, and engineer certification. The complete engineering management package.

Why choose METCON

Sydney's engineering coordinators.

Engineers design it. We build it. When we coordinate both, the result is better. Practical construction knowledge applied to engineering management.

Builder Perspective

We review engineering from the builder's side, what works on site, what doesn't, and what can be improved.

Multi-Discipline

Structural, civil, geotech, hydraulic, mechanical, we coordinate across all engineering disciplines.

Licensed Builder

Meteora Constructions Pty Ltd, fully licensed in NSW with all required insurances.

Buildability Focus

Every design reviewed for practical construction. Impractical details identified and resolved before they become site problems.

Documentation Control

Engineering revisions tracked, current drawings maintained, and design changes managed systematically.

40+ Years Experience

Hands-on Sydney building experience going back to the 1970s.

What our clients say

Rated 5.0 by Sydney clients.

5.0

Real reviews from homeowners, strata and builders.

They handled the DA, the engineer, and the build. We didn't have to chase council once. Massive wall, done in under two weeks.
MSMichael Stavros Vaucluse
Council approval sorted, engineering sorted, wall done in a week. Could not fault the process.
DRDavid Reeves Manly
We're a strata block and needed a retaining wall replaced urgently. METCON moved fast, communicated well, and the residents are very happy.

Engineering Coordination FAQ

Common questions.

Straight answers from the builder. Anything else, just ask.

Do you handle council approvals and engineering?

Yes. We manage the entire process, including:

  • Coordinating with structural engineers
  • Preparing documentation
  • Lodging Development Applications or Complying Development Certificates
  • Liaising with council on your behalf

You do not need to deal with council directly. We handle it all.

What is included in your quotes?

Every METCON quote is fully itemised and includes:

  • Scope of work
  • Materials and specifications
  • Labour costs
  • Excavation and site preparation
  • Drainage (where applicable)
  • Engineering fees
  • Council application fees
  • Project timeline and payment schedule

There are no hidden costs. What we quote is what you pay, unless you request changes to the scope.

What payment terms do you offer?

We use a progress payment structure, which means you pay in stages as the work is completed. This is standard practice in the NSW building industry and protects both parties.

The exact payment schedule depends on the project size and is set out clearly in your quote. We never ask for full payment upfront.

What happens if something goes wrong during the build?

Construction can sometimes uncover unexpected issues, especially on older properties or difficult sites.

If we find something outside the original scope, such as hidden asbestos, unstable soil or structural defects, we tell you immediately, explain the options and give you a clear cost for any additional work before proceeding.

You are never hit with surprise bills.
